Corporate Social Responsibility : the continuing commitment by business to contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the community and society at large.
In my opinion, CSR is just a fancy term for giving back to the community on a national and/or local level while stimulating the economy.
Money + Planet + People = CSR
As a born and bred die-hard Disney fan and a former Disney intern, I can’t think of a better example of a company that exercises great corporate social responsibility than The Walt Disney Company.
One of Disney’s most recent campaigns, TRYit!, stems from the Disney Citizenship branch of the company. Disney’s TRYit! campaign shows how much Disney cares about the health of one of it’s major audiences: children.
The campaign focuses on introducing fun and exciting foods and exercises to children nationwide. The TRYit! campaign also includes a TRYathalon Road Tour across 10 cities nationwide and printable activities, recipes and inspiring videos on their TRYit! website. From inspirational messages on-air and online, Disney’s TRYit! campaign has become a phenomenon.
By adding the TRYathalon Road Tour to the TRYit! campaign, Disney has taken a national CSR campaign and brought it to a local level as well.
Children and families are able to participate in fun challenges and TRY new, healthy activities. Radio Disney stars will also be in attendance at TRYathalon events to encourage participants and raise awareness.
I’d say Disney is doing a pretty fantastic job exercising corporate social responsibility, not to mention the amazing PR work done to boost the campaign.
Disney has promoted their TRYit! campaign through social media, Radio Disney, the Disney Citizenship website and in print. They are promoting a positive lifestyle for the lives of youth and are doing so in an exciting, engaging way.
Seeing a company I love exercise good CSR and help the community makes me smile.
